Real Life kicked off in March of 2007 after Hutton and wife Tara stopped into the newly constructed Dosey Doe for a quick lunch. “I couldn’t believe the place,” says Hutton. “It’s so unassuming when you’re driving down I-45 at 70mph, but inside it’s like another place in time.” Owner Steve Said and Kyle met that day and the rest is history. “It was evident that Steve and I shared a vision about how the music and the artists should be presented and treated,” Hutton states. “I pitched the idea for the series and a few meetings later we we’re headfirst into Season One.”
The first season of Real Life began in March of 2007 with longtime Hutton friend and co-writer Roger Creager. Not far into the innagural season Hutton, along with David Amato and Karen White of 99.7 KVST began conversations that led to Real Life Real Music Radio. Each 90 minute live show is taped and edited into a 1 hour broadcast. “KVST is our home station,” exclaims Hutton. “While we are now in syndication in numerous markets blanketing the state of Texas in order to take this music to a broader audience, KVST is a vital part of our history.”
Real Life Real Music has now archived over 250 interviews with a “who’s-who” list of Texas / Red Dirt / and Americana artists. The archives have been recognized by the Texas Center for Texas Music History as a “treasure trove of important cultural and historical recordings”.
